On March 22, 2011 the Coalition for a Carleton Sexual Assault Centre will celebrate the one year anniversary of the Carleton Sexual Assault Support Line!
And what’s a party without friends?
Join us on March 22nd from 7:00 – 9:00pm in the atrium of the university centre at Carleton University to celebrate!
This event is FREE and open to anyone. The space is accessible.
The Support Line is run entirely by trained volunteer support workers and we receive no funding from Carleton University. We are entirely funded by community donations and from the funding received through various grassroots fundraisers. So we really do owe it all to YOU; the community we support and the community that supports us.
And this isn’t just any kind of celebration!
We will be launching our brand new initiative – “The Ally Project”. This project creates a space for male allies to speak out against sexual violence and to encourage all men to challenge constructs of masculinity and power.
Our project is open to any self-identified men (cis, trans, queer, genderqueer and two spirit men).
We will also be showing the short documentary film “The Line”. (http://whereisyourline.org/)
“Told through a “sex-positive” lens, THE LINE is a 24 minute documentary about a young woman – the filmmaker- who is raped, but her story isn’t cut and dry. Not a “perfect victim,” the filmmaker confronts her attacker, recording the conversation with a hidden camera. Sex workers, survivors and activists discuss justice, accountability and today’s “rape culture.” The film asks the question: where is the line defining consent?”
“The Line” is not just a film, but a movement to end sexual violence and to encourage dialogue around consent and sex positivity. Stuff that we’re all for!
So please join us for snacks, chats and celebrations!
*As always, support workers will be on site to offer support and resources*
